James Ward and Elizabeth Jones were married 13 December 1832.
James Ward was born 5 Feb 1770, the son of Thomas Ward and his wife Pheraby Hill, near Powellsville in Bertie Co, NC.
James Ward married first on 27 February 1790, Delilah Freeman, daughter of John Freeman.
Deliah Freeman Ward died 14 May 1821.
James Ward married second on 20 May 1823, Silva Ward, the widow of his brother Joshua Ward and the daughter of another James Ward.
Silva Ward Ward Ward died 28 May 1829.
Thirdly, James Ward married on 22 Nov 1829 Penelope Hunter, daughter of Timothy.
Penelope Hunter Ward died 22 April 1832.
James Ward married Elizabeth Jones Jones on 13 December 1832.
Recorded in James Ward’s Bible now in the possession of Michael Moore.
James Ward was a Deacon of Colerain (Wiccacon) Baptist Church.
He was a Justice of the Peace for Bertie County.
He purchased “Maple Lawn” from his brother-in-law James Sidney Jones III when Jones moved to Alabama (formerly the overseer’s home.
Jones had rebuilt it in 1828 as a home for his mother, his sisters and himself.) ward-4 ward-3

After the home of Augustus Bass and wife Celia Brittain burned in 1857 the Moores traded them the Ward place with the house for property joining our Farm Maple Lawn that my father called the Bass field.
John and Ann Moore were already living in their mansion in Murfreesboro. Elizabeth and James Delk moved out to Maple Lawn about that time.

Elizabeth Jones, daughter of James Sidney Jones II and his wife Ann (Nancy) Walton, was born 16 October 1791 at the Jones’ Hole in Hertford Co NC.
She married 4 Oct. 1809 her cousin James Howell Jones (1781-1831).
Howell Jones was Hertford County’s Clerk & Master in Equity from 1806 until his death in 1831. They built a home (the Bazemore) in 1825.
Howell Jones’s first wife Nancy Duer is in the Duer graveyard in Winton NC, she died January 1808.
Elizabeth Jones Jones married James Ward on 13 December 1832.
James Ward died 27 February 1843.
In December 1846, she married the Rev. James Delke (1793-1862).
(He’s who cut the trees on the front lawn so his sweet-potato patch could get enough sun.) He died in 1862. His grave is in Murfreesboro, NC beside his first wife.
[although my father erected a stone for him at the Jones’ Hole.]
After her daughter Ann’s home burned in 1866 at Murfreesboro, Ann, her husband Major John W Moore and family made their home with Elizabeth at Maple Lawn. Elizabeth Delke died 1 October 1876.

1817, 11 Dec – Dr John F Ward married Mary E Phillips of Orange Co
1819, 25 April – daughter Margaret Ward is born.
1821, 14 May – his mother Deliah Freeman Ward dies
1822, Feb 7th — writing from Tarboro — a statement about small pox vaccination – he had been sent the actual disease “matter” instead of the vaccination “matter” – but correct matter was obtained and all had been vaccinated with that….appeared in the Edenton Gazette that day.
1827 — a letter for him was as the post office in Windsor NC
1828, 25 May – Dr. John F Ward married 2nd Silva Spivey
1829, 26 March – son DeWitt Ward is born
1829, 19 June — son DeWitt Ward dies.
1831, 29 July – daughter Laura Ward is born
