This is my working hypothesis – the way I see it as of this moment!!


John Outlaw son of John Outlaw (ca 1712 – 1780) was born about 1744.
He died in Bertie County in 1792.
His wife was named Elizabeth (probably Cannady as they named their eldest son John Canada Outlaw born 14 October 1789 in Bertie Co.)
Elizabeth, his widow, married 2nd Aug 1793 James Outlaw (ca 1757 – brother of her 1st husband John Outlaw).
She had died prior to 1812 when James remarried.

John Outlaw served in the Revolution (Army Accounts at Raleigh, Book of Settlements 28, No 3335; Brown Book Settlement #19; and Volume 106, Bk 19 pp 15 and 39)

John Outlaw decd Estate Papers:
6 Feb 1792 Elizabeth Outlaw appointed administrix with William Watford & James Outlaw Jr (brother of John who soon married Elizabeth) as securities.
On November 6, 1792 James Outlaw gave bond as guardian of John, Timothy, Martha, & Dicea Outlaw.
In August 1793 James married the widow and he and his wife are mentioned as administrators of the estate; on October 7 1793 the estate was divided among James & Elizabeth (her 1/3) and Martha, Rodica, John, & Timothy (2/3rds).

February 1804 Patsy and Dicey Outlaw were paid their share of the estate and payments received by L Martha Raynor and to Laodicea Outlaw.
April 1 1809 John and Timothy Outlaw received their part of the estate and there was an order in Nov 1810 to divide the land between John and Timothy.

Timothy died in 1814 and his inventory was reported by Joshua Raynor, 15 April 1814.

Joshua Rayner Bible: Joshua Rayner and Martha his wife was married December 22, 1803.

This shows that James Outlaw had been widowed and remarried by 1812.
Outlaw, James NC Line S41929 Appl 24 Mar 1820 Bertie Co, NC age 60, but 17 Nov 1820 his age is 60; his wife Martha is age 30 & children; Jeremiah 17, Harriet 7, Levy 5 & William age 3 yrs,
sol lived in Bertie Co, NC at enl.

State of North Carolina, Bertie County, In the name of God Amen
Timothy Outlaw of Bertie County and State aforesaid being in perfect mind and memory. I make and ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner and form to wit first I give and trust my soul to God and as far my Worldly part of My Estate.
First as for my land that was left to me by my father John Outlaw decd I give to my two friends Joshua Rayner and Matthew Morriss Each of them to sher and sher alike in this
Secondly I give and bequeath to Matthew Morriss one Negro boy named Daniel to him his heirs and assigns forever.
Thirdly I give and bequeath to my friend Joshua Rayner one negro woman named Hanner to him his heirs and assigns forever.
Fourthly I give and bequeath to my friend James Outlaw three head of cattle to him his heirs and assigns forever.
Fiftly and lastly I do appoint my friend Timothy Walton and Joshua Rayner to be Executors of this my last will and Testament made by me and confirming this ?and ? and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament in Witness whereof I here unto sett my hand and seal this fourteenth day of August one Thousand Eighteen hundred and Twelve.
