Wright Hollomon, appears to be the son of Cornelius Hollomon and his first wife, Celia.
Wright Hollomon married Susanna Mitchell the daughter of John Mitchell who named her Susanna Hollomon in his will in 1794.

I have Wrights children as Nancy, Sheral B. Simeon, Whitmel, Jane, Martha, Kindred, Abner. Notice I do not carry a William Wright as some do. I have never seen anything to indicate there was a William.. In about years, both Nancy and Simeon were born before William Wright of 1802.

NAME: There is some variation to the spelling of her name: Holiman, Holoman, Holloman. Notes from Rachel Manning Nichols says she was born in Holland. This is not accurate according to the census. Census has her being born in NC or SC. 1850 census lists No. Carolina as place of birth. According to family records of Sarah Browder, she was the sister of Clarky, Harrison, Wright and Celia Hollomon.

LAND: per website, “On September 1, 1858, Celia Hoomes was granted 280 acres and 56/100 of an acre of land situated mostly on the east side of the McGowin Bridge-Brooklyn highway–approximately one mile due west of the fork’s of the Sepulga and Conecuh rivers. The NW corner is near Teddy on the west side of the highway. The land includes 80 acres now owned by Dr. A. J. McCreary, 80 acres on the J. T. Sheppard heirs property, 20 acres on T. R. Miller Mill Co. property, and 40 acres on Buddy McGowin heirs property. Many years later, Mrs. Churchill Hoomes moved to New Orleans with two of her grandchildren, Will and Emma White, children of Steve White and his wife, Fannie Hoomes. They all died and were buried there.”

Since receiving the information regarding Clarky, Wright, Harris and Celia, I have come to the following conclusions regarding the
Hollomons in Alabama:

1820 CENSUS

No Hollomans listed in heads of household for Conecuh Co. in 1820. Must have arrived between 1820 and 1828. According to various family records, Celia married Geo. Churchill Hoomes in 1829 and Wm. Wright married Jane in 1828. So, at least these two members of the family were here by then. Drucilla was married in 1822 but it is unclear if she married in NC or in AL. All census records for her first son, Henry, b, 1823 give AL as his place of birth. Census records can sometimes be unreliable so it may or may not be that they were here by 1821 or 1822.

In regard to the Mancils, there is an Edward and William Mancil in the 1820 census. I have my doubts about Edward Mancil’s relationship to John but William does seem to be closely related. William shows up in later census, living in close proximity to the family so he may be a brother. The 1820 enumeration in Conecuh Co. doesn’t give a breakdown of ages except for under or over 20 yrs.

With 2 males over 20, this is probably a blended family and John may be residing in this household. There was also a Margaret Mancil per the following GENFORUM posting: “Looking for info on Benjamin Mason b.1805 in Jones Co., GA. He married Margaret “Peggy” Mancil b. 1803 in SC. They married abt 1827. Resided in Conecuh co., AL. Children: Turner, Benjamin, Nancy, Elisha, Celia, & James. Elisha, Celia & James all married Northcutts.” If Margaret is John’s sister, then she could be one of the females over 20 in this household.

What is interesting about this 1830 and 1840 census is that it also includes a Hinchey Warren, b. 1756 in Northampton Co., NC, son of Hinchey Warren Sr. of Northampton, NC. Possibly several families from Northampton, Hertford or Bertie came to Conecuh Co together.

I am quite confident of the information regarding these people in Alabama. The person who did the research on the family of Drucilla Holloman and John Mancil was Rachel Manning Nichols. She was a grandaughter of Rachel Mancil, dau of Drucilla and John. Rachel Nichols went to Alabama in the 1940’s or 50’s and gathered the Mancil, Manning and Parker family history from relatives that were living at the time. My family descends from Martha Mancil, Rachel’s older sister. The information gathered by Rachel Nichols has been confirmed by census, county records, cemetery data and our own family history. I received copies of Mrs. Nichols handwritten notes from her daughter-in-law.

The individual who did a lot of the Hoomes research was Pickie Hoomes Stone. She was a grandaughter of Celia Holloman Hoomes. Pickie was born in 1897 and died in 1959. She married my father’s cousin, Ben Stone. Pickie had access to a lot of family records, bibles, and such and wrote a lot of family histories about the Hoomes and Stone family. It was not until I received the family history of Wm. Wright Holloman’s family from Sarah Browder (sent to me by Jim Hollomon) that I knew the connection between Celia and Drucilla. I’ve since been able to contact Sarah Browder and confirm that this data originated from Frances Sophronia Holloman Butler. The data that Frances Butler had written about Celia’s family and Drucilla’s family has also proven to be accurate when compared to our family records so I feel confident in assuming that the information she wrote regarding Harris and Clarky is also accurate. And, it is Frances Butler’s records that give the names of Wright Hollomon and Susan “McCullen” (which I believe to be a phonetic interpretation of McGlaughan/McGlohon) of Hertford, NC as the parents of Clarky, Harris, Wm. Wright, Drucilla and Celia.

So, that is why I’m so interested in finding out the source of naming Nancy, Burrell, Simeon, Jane and Martha as children of Wright and Susan(nah). If there are records that name them as children of this couple, (deeds or land records) then I need to reevaluate my speculatons. If they have been linked because they are “spare” Hollomons that are in the area, but can’t be definitely assigned to a specific family, then my assumptions have more weight, based on “first hand knowledge” of Frances Butler. It stands to reason that a woman born in 1842, living in Conecuh, Alabama, wouldn’t have come up with the names of Wright and Susan, a couple who lived in Hertford, NC that were long dead and she had never met, if she didn’t have some information from her father, Wm. Wright Hollomon.

This is my working hypothesis – the way I see it as of this moment!!


If Simeon was who I think he was, I believe he died about 1839, and left four children born in the 1820s and 30s. According to Mom, grandpa Jimmie had two brothers William and Joseph . Both supposedly went to Texas, Grandpa also had a sister Mary and I suspect a sister named Susan who was a 16 year old living with grandpa in 1850.

Kindred Magruda Hollomon was the son of Kindred Hollomon and Mary E Hollomon.
He was born May 1862 Hertford Co NC and died 6 May 1898 at home near Stoney Creek.
He married Temperance [Tempie] Tynes. Her mother had married 2nd a Wilkins.

Temperance [Allis] Tynes was born in Dec 1859 according to the 1900 census.
and the 1880 census. 12 Dec 1856 – 16 Aug 1909
