This is my working hypothesis – the way I see it as of this moment!!


 

Solomon Cherry was born about 1714 in Norfolk Co, Va the son of William Cherry 1664 -1737 and his wife Elizabeth. William Cherry was the son of John Cherry 1619 – 1699 and Elizabeth Faithful.
It is said that Solomon was married twice both times to a Sarah.
He was married after the first Sarah’s death to Sarah Eley, on 20 July 1757.
Sarah Eley was born 8 April 1738 and died 13 Feb 1806.
Solomon died 14 Nov 1777 in Bertie County, North Carolina leaving a will.

On 5 Mar 1773 Cader Cherry, Sollomon Cherry and Martha Cherry were witnesses to Jonathan Stanley’s will. Bertie Co.

Solomon Cherry wrote his will in Bertie County 14 Nov 1773 and it was proved at Aug Ct 1777. “very sick and weak in body…” Son William Cherry — cow, calf, lamb, bed. Son Keder Cherry — cow, calf, bed, sheets. Daughter Mary Jenkins — cow, calf, lamb, bed. Daughter Martha Cherry — cow, calf,sow, ewe, pot, bed, etc. Daughter Elizabeth Cherry — cow, calf,sows, bed, etc. Wife Sarah Cherry – my manor house and plantation where I now live. Thomas Cherry married 7 Jan 1794 Rachel Outlaw daughter of Edward Outlaw and his wife Mary.

This Thomas Cherry appears to be the son of Aaron Cherry who was on the 1757 tax list of Bertie County. I feel certain that Aaron Cherry was also a descendant of John Cherry 1619 – 1699 and Elizabeth Faithful of Norfolk Co, VA.

I think this Aaron Cherry had sons John, Joshua and Thomas [see the census below.]
