This is my working hypothesis – the way I see it as of this moment!!

1697, Richard Parker patented land joining his father’s land.
1731, Richard Parker was the Justice of Peace in Chowan Co, NC.
1731 Vestryman of St Paul’s Parish, re-elected 1738 and 1740

February 7, 1836: The men of the Alamo elect Sam Maverick and Jesse Badgett to represent them at the Convention at Washington-on-the-Brazos.

Jesse B. Badgett, 29, from Arkansas, officially represented Bexar, but was elected by the volunteers in the Alamo. Bexare’s did not believe that the newly arrived troops should be allowed to vote, but the soldiers elected Badgett and Sam Maverick, and sent them with a petition for the Convention to seat them, which was accepted without debate. With no hard feelings, once in Washington Badgett shared a rented house with Bexar’s other delegates, Francisco Ruiz and Jose Antonio Navarro, and Harrisburg’s Lorenzo de Zavala. Badgett was lost to history after an apparent return to Arkansas.

[This excerpt is taken from the account of Jesse Badgett. It was published in the Arkansas Gazette in Little Rock on April 12, 1836 and appears to be the source which mistakenly identified Dr. Edward F. Mitchusson as being from Virginia–a mistake which was long repeated.]

Title: LATEST FROM TEXAS-DIRECT
Text: Mr. Jesse B. Badgett, who was one of a small party who left Little Rock, for Texas, last fall, and who was a member of the late convention at Washington, the Seat of Government of Texas, returned to this place, on Sunday evening last, direct from that country, and has communicated to us the following highly interesting war news from the theater of war.
San Antonio, as heretofore stated, was taken by storm, by a overwhelming force, commanded by Gen. Santa Anna, in person, early on the morning of the 6th ult. The whole force of Col Travis, at its capture, was only 183 men, (14 of whom were on the sick list, and unable to take part in the battle.) They were ALL SLAIN. The seige lasted 14 days and nights, and, from the best information that could be obtained from a Mexican deserter, the Mexican loss during the siege amount to 881 killed and about 700 wounded… The following names of such of the officers who fell in defending San Antonio, as are recollected by Mr. Badgett:…Dr. Mitcherson of Va….

  1. Hello, is anyone there? I just found among papers my recently deceased 89-year-old brother kept, a pen-and-ink copy of the last will of Abner Parker dated April 18, 1815, Granville County, N.C.. Not sure what relation this person is to me (somewhere on my paternal grandmother’s side). Abner’s “beloved wife” was Nancy. They had 3 sons (John, David, William) and a daughter “Parthenia?” Is this interesting to you? Let me know. APK
