In the court records of Gates County is found these records:

19th of May 1802, Wednesday morning, The court met and judges present are Joseph Riddick, Kedar Ballard, William Goodman and Miles Benton.

Micajah Riddick & Humphry Hudgins came into the Court and moved for Administration on the Estate of John Riddick Junior dead upon their giving Bond & Security in the sum of Five thousand pounds. At the same time Joseph Riddick and Miles Benton, Esquires, came into the Court and offered themselves as Securities

16th Aug 1802, Inventory of the Goods and Chattels rights & Credits which were of the estate of John Riddick dead. was exhibited into Court by Humphrey Hudgins & Micajah Riddick Administrators on oath, etc.
Ordered that Humphrey Hudgins & Micajah Riddick Adm. of John Riddick, dead. sell the personal Estate of the decedent agreeable to Law to pay debts etc.

21 Feb 1803, Humphrey D. Hudgins appointed Guardian to Amelia Riddick Orphan of John Riddick dead. Ordered that he give bond & Security in the sum of one thousand five hundred pounds at the same time Humphry Hudgins & Micajah Riddick came into the Court and offered themselves as Securities etc.

16 May 1803. The account of sale of the Estate of John Riddick dead was exhibited into Court by Humphrey Hudgins & Micajah Riddick, admrs. . .
Additional Inventory of the good & Chattels Rights & Credits which were of the Estate of John Riddick, decd. was exhibited into Court on oath by Humphrey Hudgins & Micajah Riddick Admrs. . .

15 Aug 1803, Ordered that David Rice,, Esqr., Samuel Harrell, John Duke & Thos. Smith or any three of them audite & State the accounts of Humprey Hudgins & Micajah Riddick, Admrs ——John Riddick decd. etc…… and make a division of the personal Estate of John Riddick decd. among those who have a right to receive the same etc.

Agreeable to the Petition of Humphrey D. Hudgins in behalf of himself & wife and of Ann Riddick, Amelia Riddick & John Riddick Orphans of John Riddick decd. it is ordered that David Rice, Samuel Harrell, Richard Briggs, John Duke & Thos. Smith be appointed Commissioners to make a division of the Real Estate which the said John Riddick died seized & possessed of etc.

20 Feb 1804 Ordered the Micajah Riddick be appointed Guardian to Ann Riddick orphan of John Riddick decd and that he give bond Etc…Humphrey Hudgins & Jethro Sumner Esqu. gave secr….

May Ct 1804 David Rice, Samuel Harrell, John Duke & Thomas Smith made their reports on Auditing the accounts of the Admr. of the Estate of John Riddick and the Division of his Personal Estate. Also with Richard Briggs and the County surveyor made the report of the Division of the Real Estate.

Feb Ct 1805 Micajah Riddick Guardian to Ann Riddick orphan of John Riddick exhibited his account with the said orphan.
Humphrey Hudgins Esquire came into Court and moved for Administration on the Estate of Humphrey D. Hudgins decd. which was accordingly granted. at the same time John B. Walton & Kinchen Norfleet offered the £2000 security bond.
Ordered that Micajah Riddick Jr. be appointed guardian to Amelia Riddick orphan of John Riddick decd……
Humphrey Hudgins Admr. on the Estate of Humphrey D. Hudgins decd who was Guardian to John Riddick Orphan of John Riddick decd. exhibited an acct. agreeable to the books of the decedent.

Ordered that Charles Worth Harvey Esqr. William Harriss, Anthony Matthews, & Thomas Smith or any three of them Allot & point out such part of the Stock, Crop, & Provisions as they may conceive necessary & adequate for the Support of Polly Hudgins relict of Humphrey D. Hudgins etc.
Ordered that the Admr. of Humphrey D. Hudgins decd sell the perishable part of the Estate of the decedent etc.

Mary Riddick, daughter of John Riddick Jun. (deceased by May 1802 when Micajah Riddick & Humphry Hudgins asked to adm. his estate) married on 5 Feb 1803 Humphrey Diggs Hudgins. After Humphrey D Hudgins death in 1805 she married in 1808 Josiah Hudgins. I think this Humphrey D. Hudgins is a brother of Josiah. (One family historian says Humphrey D. is Josiah’s grandfather and has it that Mary Riddick is marrying Josiah’s father Humphrey as his second wife–I do not think so. )

15 Nov 1813 – Willis Cross & Amelia Cross to John Riddick. $174 – 58 acres of land granted to John Riddick E by Richard Briggs running S to Webb’s line.

This is to certify that I do give my consent for William Eley to intermarry with Sarah C. Riddick for which I am guardian and I will further state her age, I find by examining the Family record kept and left by her father & mother, it is in the words as follows. Sarah C. Riddick daughter of John Riddick & Sarah his wife was borned the 12th of April 1816, which makes her fifteen the 12 of last April the which Mr. Rizop Rawls has also seen this evening who is the subscribing witness. May 30th 1831 George Costen Test. R. Rawls.
