and Hope, Bertie Co, North Carolina
This is my working hypothesis – the way I see it as of this moment!!
Zedekiah Stone was probably born in Mass ca 1740; son of another Zedekiah born in 1710 and his wife Martha.
Zedekiah Stone was a prosperous merchant on the Cashie River having migrated in 1766 from Massachusetts. About this time he begins to appear in the Bertie records.
In 1769 Zedekiah married the widow of Francis Hobson, whose estate was probated in September 1768 and moved into her home. It was here at “Hope” that David Stone, later Governor of North Carolina, was born 17 Feb 1770.
David built the present house “Hope” in 1803.
Zedekiah Stone was one of the members of the Provincial Congress at Hillsboro 21 Aug 1775 from Bertie County; member of the Committee to procure arms and ammunition for the Continental Army, 19 April 1776; member of the Provincial Congress at Halifax in Nov 1776; Commissioner to procure guns for the Continental Army in December 1776 and state senator from Bertie County in 1777, 1778, 1779 and after the Revolution in 1786. Among the other positions he filled, he was appointed with Thomas Pugh and Simon Turner as Commissioner of Indian Affairs.
Zedekiah Stone’s wife Elizabeth died in 1779.
Zedekiah married 2nd about 1792 Mary [Polly] Jordan dau of William Jordan who served in the legislature in 1777 and 1778.
Mary [Polly] Jordan Stone died bef 14 May 1796 when administration of her estate was granted to Zedekiah Stone.

Hello,
My name is Cynthia Herlong and I have traced through AncestryDNA my mother’s family line to a William Stone 1774-1851. He was born in Bertie NC and married Mary Williams in 1807 in Bertie NC. Mary and William Stone are the parents of my 4th generation grandparent (Rosannah Stone). I am curious to know if William Stone was related to David Stone and would appreciate any information you may have to share.
I do not think that your William Stone was related to Gov. David Stone.
He was part of the family of Bertie County native Benjamin Stone. do a search on my page for Benjamin.. and see what I have found.
