warning – all ancestry dubious beyond this point!
All may be a fabrication of Gustav Anjou — as William Ogden Wheeler gave him as a source –look at the bottom of page 6 and you will see his name listed as the reference. The last paragraph of that page insists that there is little doubt that the Ogden’s came from Bradley Plain in Southampton because of information that Gustav confirmed by “personal knowledge of the church records of Bradley Plain, Hampshire and several other English records and authorities.”

The name Ogden
the name comes from the Saxon Ock – oak-tree and den a covert and feeding place for animals and synonymic with dean – a wooden valley or tract yielding acorns or mast. so then “the oak valley” oak dale, vale of oaks, leafy vale or shady valley.
name has also been spelled “de Oketon,” Oketone, Ocktone, Okedone, Okedon, Okeden, Oakden, Okden and Ogden [ca 1500 first appears]
