James Rutland ca 1682 – bef 1751 | his parents
& ca 1708 Elizabeth Williams ca 1685 – | her parents
of Chowan & Bertie Counties, North Carolina
This is my working hypothesis – the way I see it as of this moment!!
“Was wondering if you ever explored a connection between James Rutland and Elizabeth Basse , marriage date 1650. I also found mention of a Richard Rutland on passenger ship arriving in Isle of Wight, VA 1641. A land grant to a Thomas Morrey (Morsey) in 1642 names Nathaniel Basse and Richard Rutland in same document. I suspect a connection. Trying to find the Rutland that immigrated to Isle of Wight, VA or Bertie/Chowan counties.” – comment from Karen Rutland Crowell
Perhaps these two James Rutlands are cousins rather than father and son and connect somehow to the info that Karen has found. . . I have not dug into the Virginia records.
but James Rutland Jr. had been moved from being a son of James Rutland Sr.
