This is my working hypothesis – the way I see it as of this moment!!


William Drew was born ca 1680 as he first appeared on the tithable list in 1696, the son of Thomas Drew and his wife Faith of Surry Co, VA.
William Drew married Judith Wood, the daughter of Thomas Wood of Isle of Wight Co, VA (Isle of Wight DB 2-4)

on 12 Oct 1729 George Williamson of Isle of Wight conveyed to Wm Drew by several deeds 1040 acres on the south side of the Roanoke River in NC. [Bertie Deed Books]
William Drew acquired large tracts of land in the Roanoke River section but he never lived there. His will was recorded in Nansemond about 1739. [IofW DB 6-467]

On 29 Mar 1740 Wm Scarsbrook, executor of the will of Judith Drew, admin. of the will of Wm. Drew, decd. late of Nansemond, and Wm. Drew of Surry, heir-at-law of sd. Wm Drew gave a clear title to John Ruffin for land bought in the lifetime of Wm. Drew Sen. IofW DB 6-647
On Aug, 1754 William Drew of Surry Co deeded to Jordon Thomas of Isle of Wight, 465 acres on the south side of the Roanoke River “inherited from his father Wm. Drew.” Halifax DB 2-70.
Probably the William Drew mentioned in his grandfather Thomas Drew’s will in 1734.

Bertie County C/130 12 Aug 1729 George Williamson of Isle of Wight to William Drew of Surry County For 20 pounds, 150 acres on SS Morratcuk adj. Turner and Bryant, Thomas Jerrell, and John Nairn, at the Great Marsh. Part of a tract granted John Gray, and by Gray sold to Thomas Jerrell, and by Jerrell sold to Williamson.
